Frost & Star: The Winter Watch
Share
Every fortress has a first cold night.
The old blockhouses along the river were built for exactly that night — thick stone walls, a door that barred from the inside, and a watchman who stayed up while everyone else slept. When the first frost came down off the water and silvered the battlements, the man on watch would mark it the same way sailors marked a change of weather: by the star that came out over the wall, bright and hard and impossible to ignore.
Frost & Star is that moment, laid out flat.
At its center sits a great star medallion — the fortress star — drawn the way frost actually spreads: not in straight lines, but reaching, branching, taking the corners first. Around it, the deep winter palette the house keeps returning to: stone grey, midnight, and antique gold, the colors of a wall at night with one lantern still burning. The rug is round because a watch is round — the circuit of the wall, the full moon over the river, a shield set down at the end of a shift.
Like everything in the Limited Edition collection, it keeps a garrison's calendar. Frost & Star holds the wall for the winter season only. When the season turns, it retires to the vault and another piece takes the watch — that is the whole point of a limited edition, and we mean it.
The details, for those who keep them: a 60-inch round rug, printed on soft chenille with the design carried edge to edge. $140.
